WHO IS BAAP FOR? BAAP is for fresh graduates and young theatre professionals with limited working experience backstage, or interested individuals with minimal knowledge in the production aspects of the arts and entertainment sector. Individuals who do not possess a tertiary certification but have a keen interest in exploring a career in backstage management with some basic understanding or background of the arts and entertainment sector, are welcome to submit your applications too.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM BAAP? This is an intensive full-time programme. Depending on the production you’re working on, hours may be long and irregular. You will get first-hand experience of the intricacies and hard work that goes on behind the scenes, and learn to find creative solutions for any challenges that come your way. You will learn the importance and essentials of organisation. You will meet people from all walks of life and from different backgrounds, and learn how to work well with them. Every aspect of this programme is designed to give you a safe, structured and solid foundation, and to equip you with the technical competencies, life skills and professional network that are essential as you begin your career in backstage management.

HOW IS BAAP CONDUCTED? BAAP is conducted mainly through on-the-job work experience: During the length of the programme, you will work on various projects across different sectors, under the supervision of either a BA full-timer or an external practitioner who is engaged by BA. Your progress and training needs will be assessed and discussed at regular milestones with your supervisors.

WHAT OCCUPATIONS CAN I TRAIN FOR THROUGH BAAP? The programme will equip you with the knowledge and skills to take on production and/or stage management roles.

HOW LONG IS BAAP? This is a 12-month long training programme.

HOW MANY PLACES ARE AVAILABLE? We are taking 6 apprentices for this intake.

WHAT DO I RECEIVE UPON COMPLETION OF BAAP? Apprentices will obtain a Statement of Attainment if certified ‘competent’ at the end of the programme.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER THE TRAINING? After the successful completion of the apprenticeship, you are expected to fulfil a service commitment of 250 days within 2 years across chosen projects. This is to support integration into the industry.

I HAVE MET ALL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AS PUBLISHED ON THE WEBSITE, DOES IT MEAN THAT I WILL AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFY FOR THE PROGRAMME? All applications are subjected to BA’s review and evaluation.
